Visit counting: two tools

Google Analytics 4. The site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and pages read. When it runs, it sets cookies in your browser and sends Google the address of the page you are on, the time, your browser and device type and your IP address, from which Google derives an approximate location. Whether it runs depends on where you are:

  • In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, nothing from Google is loaded until you press Accept in the consent window. Before that, no request goes to Google and no cookie is set. If you press Reject, Google Analytics is never loaded. If you accept, it loads, and it is configured so that Google does not use the data for advertising.
  • Your region is read from the connection that delivers the page. If it cannot be determined, the site treats you as if consent were required.
  • Everywhere else, Google Analytics loads without asking.
  • Your choice is kept in your browser's local storage, under a single key, so the window does not return on every page. You can change it later through the analytics settings link on this site.

Cloudflare Web Analytics. The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which adds its own small measurement file to every page. It counts page views and measures how fast pages load. It sets no cookies, writes nothing to local storage and, by Cloudflare's description, does not fingerprint the browser. It runs for all visitors in every region and is not governed by the consent window. A content blocker that stops requests to static.cloudflareinsights.com stops it.

Cloudflare also handles each request so as to deliver the page and apply the site's security settings, which include blocking requests from some countries.

What is stored in your browser

Two things, both in local storage, and each only if the event that writes it happens:

  • Your analytics consent choice, written when you press Accept or Reject in the consent window.
  • Your light or dark theme preference, written if you use the manual theme switch.

Nothing else is stored. The site's own code sets no cookies; the only cookies are those Google Analytics sets when it loads.

Search on this site filters an index that is built into the pages and runs inside your browser. The words you type are not sent anywhere.

Email

Email to contact@antscellsandatoms.com is used only to handle the message you sent. The address is not added to any list, and there is no newsletter.

What the site does not have

No advertising, no comments, no accounts, no newsletter, no social-media buttons and no embedded players. If advertising is added later, this page will say which provider, what it stores and how to opt out, and the date above will change.
